For over a year, the Government has been investigating paid search ads,testimonials,and every facet one can imagine when it comes to web communication. From internet products, testimonials,and those ads which attempt to influence your political opinion,the FTC is looking at ways to regulate it.
As millions have found out, it can be very lucrative for business, and it can even influence elections.
Anything that protects the consumer is generally thought to be "good." Yet the fear of over-regulation on bloggers, businesses, and marketers are causing many to wonder if disclosure isn't possible without the FTC intervening. As Web Pro News reports,... "the FTC is expected to release their guidelines at any time, we might not have to speculate for much longer".
One opinion expressed on the blog sums up the fear many have: "... This is nothing more than the typical standard way the government slides things past the public under the guise of something else they cloak with “good intentions”. Think of the power the internet has had on communication. Business and users all need to be accountable, but also consider the good we suffer to lose. For once the little man has not simply been an "audience".
