Amazing what goes on behind the scenes right in front of us. Right Side News stays on top of this Internet Czar. What is most flabbergasting in reading about this new bill is the fact that all IT personnel will have to be certified by the government. Remember the howling when the House overwhelmingly voted in The Patriot Act? Many didn't like that, but those same voices (like the ACLU) are very quiet...now.
"While the American people, the news media and most politicians are absorbed with proposed health care legislation, two pieces of legislation that were introduced in the U.S. Senate, if passed, will grant the President Barack Obama unprecedented power to access private Internet data, regulate cybersecurity in the private sector, and the authority to completely shutdown the Internet during a cyber emergency.
Senate bills 773 and 778, introduced by Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.V., are both part of what's being called the Cybersecurity Act of 2009, which would create a new Office of the National Cybersecurity Advisor, reportable directly to the president and charged with defending the country from cyber attack."
