Subject: Clinton Endorsement?
Hey Jim / Matt / David:
I was reading about the Donnie McClurkin controversy and the editorial
on Obama as published in Q-Notes. So, I thought I would write to ask if
you intend to endorse Hillary Clinton for President, now that Edwards
has bowed out?
I am working with a grassroots campaign here in Charlotte:
Charlotte4Hillary , http://www.charlotte4hillary.com -- and while many in
mainstream media seem to think Obama has this tied up, and that all
gays/lesbians are supporting him, the fact is that his support is fractured. In
listening daily to OutQ on Sirius Radio, it seems that nationally there
are MANY supporters for Hillary. The growing theme is one that Clinton
has stated emphatically: That there is a big divide between giving a
speech, and actually delivering for the Democrats in the November Election.
Sen. Clinton has been instrumental on many fronts in support of GLBT
issues. During the Clinton-Gore White House there were "OUT" members of
the staff, including many on Mrs. Clinton's staff.
As you know, Florida has a very large gay/lesbian population. Couple
this with the many older/retired Americans, and the many
Hispanic-Americans who reside in Florida, and it seems incomprehensible that Sen. Obama
has not come to the defense and aid of these voters to be counted in
the election process for the presidency.
The fact that Sen. Edwards has not endorsed Obama is telling. Just this
week New York Magazine published an exclusive interview which shows
Obama's smug attitude toward the electorate and the issues of the
Democratic Party. Conversely, Edwards notes that Clinton was genuine in her
support of Edwards' issues of poverty and the working poor, and even Mrs.
Edwards seemed to favor Clinton over Obama.
In your previous endorsement of Edwards you stated that "[Edwards is
the] most electable Democrat in the race..." And yet as time has shown,
the most electable is actually Sen. Clinton. According to the votes so
far, she has won every major state necessary to carry a Democratic
victory in the fall. If the Democratic delegates were awarded as in the
General Elections, a system implemented by the Republicans, a "winner take
all" for each state, then Clinton would be ahead by over 200 delegates.
This is the way to win the election in the Fall.
The Obama campaign wishes to have it both ways in many accounts. Have
gay/lesbian support by claiming to support our issues; involving
gay-bashing anti-gay preachers such as Donnie McClurkin into his campaign
rallies. Count the votes and states which favor his delegates;
disenfranchise gays/lesbians, minorities, and the retired voters of Florida. Have
delegates and super delegates vote for the "majority" of their state's
popular vote; allow Super Delegates such as Kerry, Kennedy, and
Richardson to "go against the will of the popular vote of their constituents",
whereby each of their districts and states voted for Clinton in the
primaries.
I urge you to endorse Sen. Clinton and to publish your support in your
next issue of Q-Notes..
Nathan

How can Obama ally with man like Wright?
In response to Leonard Pitts' "Obama shows how to talk about race" (March 24 Viewpoint):
His alliance with Rev. Wright is so repugnant it causes me to question Sen. Obama's ability to unite us.
I'm not willing to give him my vote based solely on his rhetoric.

Dear Hillary,
I want you to know that the NC Support for Hillary Group located in
Charlotte, NC, and I are working hard to get your message out to North
Carolina voters. The group meets regularly, creating advertising signs,
making phone calls, sending e-mails, etc.
We would like to have home parties, fundraisers and rallies. One method
that would help is an introductory DVD we can show at these events.
Creating a DVD with a welcome message that thanks everyone for coming
to the event and members with information on voting in the NC Primary
as well as a brief summary of your economic plan, the housing problem
and the war in Iraq would help. I think these are the issues that NC
are interested in. You can give a personal spin on the issues this way
and attract a lot more votes.
Additionally, you can charge a fee for the tape, not more than $30.00
dollars for each DVD ordered. And it would be a great fund raiser!
Thank you for taking the time to review my message.
Sincerely,
Frances Anzillatto

`Racial division'? That isn't central issue
In response to "Obama confronts racial division" (March 19):The issue isn't "racial division."
The issue is his association with Rev. Jeremiah Wright, which makes it clear he lacks both judgment and the ability to unify the country.
We can't have a president who has spent 20 years as a member of the "God damn America" church.

I'm not buying what Obama is selling
Obama insults our intelligence with his claim to have heard none of Wright's inflammatory sermons. In the 20 years he attended Wright's church did he show up only on "Audacity of Hope" Sundays?
Why did Obama wait until now to denounce his mentor's remarks? After rescinding at the last minute Wright's invitation to give the invocation at his presidential campaign announcement, why did he keep Wright on the campaign's African American Religious Leadership Committee?
