tips on phone banking:
I know our next phone bank will be much more productive. Yesterday's
event was our first and it did take us a while to get everything set up
and to figure out exactly what we were doing. We had to set up our
internet connections, log on, create accounts for those who did not have
them already or who could not access them from my laptops. Each person
needed time to familiarize themselves with the instructions and script
provided by the campaign and it took a few calls to get comfortable.
Weekends are a good time to plan them as most of us have free minutes
on our cell phones then.
You will need a cell phone with free minutes and a laptop installed
with a wireless card. If you don't have either of these, let us know and
we will check on the availability of one for you. For example, I have a
"family plan" and can scap an extra phone from one of my teenagers.
Also, a hands-free headset might be helpful, but not a bluetooth one. The
reception, I am told is too "fuzzy".
Please log on to the website, hillaryclinton.com, and create an account
for yourself if you have not already done so. Remember your username
and password and bring them with you. If you can, go to the spot where
you can volunteer to make phone calls now. You won't actually have to
make the phone calls then if you are not prepared to do so, but you
will be able to familiarize yourself with the script. This will save lots
of time, but if you are not able to get this far, don't fret. It is
really not a big thing and someone will help you with it when you get to
the phone bank.
