I am reading the bloodiest book in the world, or at least in my world. It’s called One Second After by William R. Forstchen. Apparently, this book is on the NYT’s best seller list. It tells the story of what would happen if an EMP (Elecromagnetic Pulse) was detonated above the United States. An EMP is produced as the result of a nuclear explosion in the atmosphere above Earth; there is no radiation, but all of our electronics are wiped out.
Anyway, the book describes how in an instant everything will stop running and that includes any vehicle made after the 1970’s. All communications are down so no one knows what is going on.
Lots of people will die pretty quickly because hospital equipment will not work; eventually anyone who needs a drug to survive will die also (think diabetes). Food gets low; people start killing each other; there are even some who become cannibals.
Militias are formed; it’s all about how people are animals and without a government controlling things we all revert to murder, rape, and mayhem. Well, not all, of course there is a hero, heroine, and others who are the good guys and help get things back under control while the masses starve.
Whoaa, baby, I prefer to have a more positive take on things. Maybe I’m naïve and a wishful thinker, but I really prefer to have positive thoughts about my fellow humans. I admit the drug addicts without drugs could be a problem; the released convicts who are mass murderers might mass murder some more; I guess we have quite a few lunatics in this country….there were people in New Orleans after Katrina shooting at the helicopters coming to rescue them.
But focusing on this type of behavior, in my opinion, brings it on. I don’t know what the point of the book is other than to warn everyone to be prepared for the worse and, I think, to suggest to our government leaders that they ought to prepare for something like this happening in real time. I admit it is a good read for a while, but by the time I got to the end I was feeling like it was just one big blood bath.
So, I was more than happy to find this Shawn Gallaway video that talks about choosing love. Yes, I will just go that way for now and leave the bloodbath thinkers to this book. I prefer to see the heart in each individual, even if there’s a lunatic who thinks he is representing Satan (yes, there is one of those guys in the book, too) running around the block.
Have a peaceful weekend (and pray an EMP doesn’t strike until Monday. Until then, eat your favorite foods and put on a little fat; you'll survive longer).
It seems like the author might also be saying we need a lot of government control to protect us from ourselves.... :(

I think the book gives a very clear picture of what could happen. People will fight for their own survival....and that of their family. I would kill to keep my children safe...wouldn't you? Safe could mean fed...
I believe people will stand together....but they will be fighting many.
