Apparently, some pretend journalist in the LSM (Lame Stream Media; network known as CBS) has decided Sarah Palin is not really a populist because she is using an airplane to get to some of her book signings and is staying in hotels rather than camping out in a tent.
Now, this is not the first time the LSM has attacked a politician for claiming to be a voice for the people while not living in abject poverty. John Edwards was attacked in this way, also.
Since when are populism and poverty the same thing?
Poverty, according to Merriam-Webster is defined as “the state of one who lacks a usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions”.
Merriam-Webster defines a populist as “a believer in the rights, wisdom, or virtues of the common people”. A definition of populism is: “the political doctrine that supports the rights and powers of the common people in their struggle with the privileged elite”.
Nowhere in these definitions of populism is there a reference to the monetary value of a populist. Nowhere does it state or imply that one must have an income below the poverty level; live in a tent; use public transportation; or buy your clothes at the Goodwill in order to be a populist. These are irrelevant non-issues.
It seems that today the LSM, who appear to be the political kingmakers and breakers in our society, have developed a convoluted definition of a populist, which makes it impossible for who they think would qualify as a real populist, to ever get elected to a political office higher than dogcatcher.
Because according to them, someone who really cares about the ordinary people can not live in a nice house, fly in an airplane, buy their clothes anywhere other than Goodwill, or make more than $20,000 a year. (Actually, you can find very nice clothes in the Goodwill).
By definition, this person could never get elected President because in order to be taken seriously as a candidate by the LSM, you have to be able to fly in airplanes, wear nice clothes, and not live in a tent. The conclusion we are led to is that only elitists can run for President because they are the only ones who can afford it and look good on TV. Therefore, anyone running for higher office who relates to “ordinary” people is a fraud.
Since when do you have to live on a shoestring in order to understand what it is like to live on one and to empathize with those who do? Isn’t the American dream all about ordinary people who work hard and raise themselves up by their bootstraps and make a better life for themselves and their children?
The LSM seems to be saying that we live in a caste society sort of like India, except you can move out of your caste, but when and if you do, you no longer have any concept of what it was like to be what you were before you moved on. For example, you are born into the lower class and you stay there because as soon as you progress and have material gains you are no longer in the lower class therefore you can not relate to anyone but the upper class and you are no longer a populist.
Is this some type of alternate reality that I am unaware of?
What a bunch of bullcrap. I hope the American people smarten up and stop letting the pretend journalists at the LSM tell them who’s a fraud and who isn’t (like they would know). When they look in a mirror, who do they see…..can’t be a journalist because a journalist wouldn’t write this crap, so….must be a fool looking like a fraud working for what is labeled the media which is really a mind game played by aliens from an alternate reality.
