You know, I was just thinking about all this support Sarah Palin is getting from women. It seems that so many women are excited about her just because she is a woman. I don't know how I feel about her other than my respect for her doing the walk, not just talking the talk. Thus far she has said very little about her positions on the issues. She may really be too conservative for my taste and I worry about promoting a conservative minded vp. but I digress a bit. The point is that I never supported Hillary because she was a woman, I supported her because she was the best person for the job. When we begin to support a candidate because of their sex, we diminish that persons real worth, real ability.
When I gave birth to my fourth child after having borne one girl and two boys previously, I told my obstetrician that of course what I wanted most was a healthy baby, but the fact that my number 4 was a girl was just "icing on the cake". That's how I feel about Hillary and the person she is. She is the best candidate. Period. The fact that she was a woman candidate for president just made it all that much sweeter.
Everyone is coming out like crazy in defense of Sarah Palin, with their eye on any pretense of sexism, and that is good. But why didn't they do it sooner for Hillary? If Rudy Guiliani really is so against sexism then why is it that they only came to the defense of a woman when it was this Republican woman getting attacked? What they say sometimes needs to be taken with a grain of salt because I have some doubt as to their sincerity.
I believe one big reason Sarah Pallin is experiencing such a surge in her popularity is due in large measure to Hillary Clinton having gone through all she went through before her. This is not mentioned as a reason why we are so watchful now and more sensitive to the sexism and again Hillary is not getting the respect she deserves. It is maddening. And you know what, I am getting madder and madder at Howard Dean (and the DNC) for not coming to Hillary's defense. She is a respected Senator, a leader of the Democratic Party and he should be ashamed of himself for his non-action.
I am also feeling a bit upset with Hillary. And I say this with love in my heart, truly. I am just so sick of seeing her in the background role supporting another man and and especially not this big fat loser. I know she's gotta really be "mad as hell" and I just don't want to see her take it anymore. The NY Times reports that BO expects her to start fighting back on his behalf. Let the asshole do his own darn dirty work. He is the one who asked for this job and thinks he is so capable. Let him start leading by example, and maybe just actually accomplish something on his own for once in his life. If he pulls this election off and actually wins he will owe his victory to none other than Hillary herself because she "fell in line" asking her supporters to throw in for him. a lot of them have. But not this one. I never did like Kool-Aid.
