Before Obama could land in Singapore, he still had his mind on lawmakers investigating the Fort Hood attack. Obama referred to Hasan as a "gunman."
Rep. Pete Hoekstra, ranking member of the Republican Senate Intelligence Committee, believes that Hasan will be found to have ties to international terrorism. The Ludington Daily News reported: "Hoekstra has asked for a briefing on the Fort Hood shootings that left 13 people dead and 29 injured, but was denied. Now he’s asking that all documents created in the investigation be preserved, that nothing be destroyed."
Congress has been frustrated with the White House's reluctance to be forthcoming with details of the Fort Hood attack. Obama has called for Congress to allow the FBI to finish its investigation first. Yet the "weak' initial response the FBI had regarding Hasan's attachment to Islamic terrorist activity doesn't assure many that Americans will get the entire truth.
Obama has a strong fear that the truth about Hasan will be politicized. With Obama's wish to drag out the investigation 'until every last detail is investigated' reveals his desire to keep as much of the investigation of Hasan under his control.
This pressured plea from Obama to Congress will be met with Senator Joe Lieberman opening up his own investigation of the Ft.Hood incident with his Homeland Security Committee. Lieberman and Hoeskstra's efforts are needed to get to the truth about an administration that would "water down" information about the terrorist threat that continues to grow and jeopardize American safety.
